Retro Flower Granny Square Free Pattern

- 4 colors worsted weight, medium 4 yarn.
- 1 skein White (I Love This Yarn)
- 2 skeins Sungold (I Love This Yarn)
- 2 skeins Black (I Love This Yarn)
- 1 skein Pumpkin (Red Heart Super Saver Yarn)
- I 5.5mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle

Make 35 blocks for a blanket that measures 58" x 40" (5 blocks wide, 7 blocks tall)
Round 1:
- Start with center color of flower and make a MC
- CH2 + 15 DC into MC (CH2 counts as a DC, 16 DC total)
- SS into top of first chain
- CH1
Round 2:
- 2SC into each stitch (32SC total)
- SS into first SC
- CH1
- Fasten off pumpkin
Round 3:
- Attach Sungold into top of any SC, CH1 + 1SC into same stitch
- CH2 + DC2tog + CH2
- Skip 1 stitch
- *DC3TOG + CH 2 + Skip 1 stitch
- Repeat from * until you have 1 stitch left (16 clusters of DC3TOG)
- SS into top of first Cluster
- CH1 + Fasten off Sungold
Round 4:
- Attach White into any CH2 space
- CH3 + TR3TOG ( Counts as TR4TOG) + CH2
- *TR4TOG + CH2
- Repeat from * until end of round (16 clusters of TR4TOG)
- SS into top of first cluster
- CH1 + fasten off
Round 5:
- Attach Black yarn into any CH2 space, CH1 + SC into same space
- CH3 ( counts as a TR) + 2TR into same space (this works half of your first corner) + CH1
- *3DC into next CH2 space + CH1
- 3HDC into next space + CH1
- 3DC into next CH space +CH1
- 3TR + CH2 + 3TR + CH1
- Repeat from * until you reach first corner
- 3TR + CH2 + SS into top of first CH
Round 6:
- Go back into the previous CH2 Space and work 1SC + CH2 + 2DC + CH1 ( this works half of your first corner)
- *place 3DC + CH1 into each CH1 space from previous round along side
- work 3DC + CH2 + 3DC in CH2 (corner space)
- Repeat from * until you reach first corner
- place 3DC + CH 2 (into the corner you started that already has 3DC)
- SS into top of first CH space
Round 7:
- Repeat round 6
Round 8:
- Attach Sungold into any corner space
- 3SC into same corner + CH1
- *3SC into top of each DC + CH1
- repeat from * along each side
- 3SC + CH2 + 3SC into each corner
Complete 1 full block. Then follow this join as you go method with each block after.
Join As You Go Method:
- After your first full block is complete, round 8 for each block after will be worked following pattern below.
- Attach Sungold into any corner space and complete 1 side of block (see round 8 above)
- When you reach your first full corner, 3SC + CH1 + SS into any corner of previous complete block.
- (With yarn still on hook, insert hook in any corner space from front to back of completed block and then SS through both previous block and the yarn that's on your hook)
- 3SC into same corner + SS into next CH1 from completed block
- 3SC into top of each DC + SS into each CH1 space from previous block
