Granny Stitch Christmas Tree Crochet Block

Let's dive right in and let me tell you what you'll need to crochet this festive Christmas Tree block.
Supplies:
- 5 Colors worsted weight yarn. I used, "I Love This Yarn" from Hobby Lobby in shades;
- White
- Brown
- Mid Green
- Toasted Almond
- Linen
- Clover Crochet Hook size I 5.5mm https://amzn.to/3KYI5W9
- Scissors
- Tapestry Needle https://amzn.to/3ufBEIr
US Crochet Stitches used
- SS Slip Stitch
- CH Chain
- SC Single Crochet
- HDC Half Double Crochet
- DC Double Crochet
- SLST Slip Stitch
Make 35 squares
Row 1
Start with white yarn
- CH 25
- 2DC in 4th CH from hook
- (*Skip 2 CH, 3DC in next CH) Repeat from * until end of row. You will have 8 clusters of 3DC
- CH 3, turn your work
Row 2
- 3DC into each of the next 2 spaces between DC clusters
- 3DC into next space, change to Brown yarn when finishing third DC
- 3DC into next space (with brown), change back to white when finishing third DC (cut brown yarn, you won't need it anymore.
- 3DC into each of the next 3 spaces
- 1DC in between 1st & 2nd DC of round 2
- CH3 turn
Row 3
- 2DC in first space, change to mid green yarn when finishing the 2nd DC
- 3DC in each of the next 6 spaces with mid green. Change back to white on the last DC (I use another skein of white yarn)
- 3DC in last space
- CH 3, turn
Row 4
- 3DC in first space changing to green on 3rd DC
- 3DC in next 5 spaces with green, changing back to white on last DC
- 3DC in next space
- 1DC on top of CH 3 space
- CH3 turn
Row 5
- 2DC in first space (counts as 3DC with the CH3)
- 3DC in next space, changing to green after 3rd DC.
- 3DC with green in next 4 spaces, changing to white on the last DC
- 3DC with white in next 2 spaces
- CH3 turn
Row 6
- 3DC with white in first space, change to green on 3rd DC
- 3DC with green in next 5 spaces, switching back to white on last DC
- 3DC in next space
- 1 DC on top of CH3 space
- CH3 turn
Row 7
- 2DC in first space, 3DC in next space changing to green on last DC
- 3DC with green in next 4 spaces, changing to white on last DC
- 3DC in next 2 spaces
- CH 3 turn
Row 8
- 3DC I’m next 2 spaces changing to green on last DC
- 3DC with green in next 3 spaces, change to white on last DC
- 3DC with white in next 2 spaces
- 1DC on top of CH3
- CH3 turn
Row 9
- 2DC in first space
- 3DC in next space changing to green
- 3DC with green in next 4 spaces changing to white on last DC
- 3DC in next 2 spaces
- CH3 turn
Row 10
- 3DC in next 2 spaces, changing to green on last DC
- 3DC in next 3 spaces, change to white on last DC
- 3DC in next 2 spaces
- 1DC on top of CH 3 space
- CH 3 turn
Row 11
- 2DC in first space
- 3DC in next 2 spaces, change to green on last DC
- 3DC in next 2 spaces, change to white on last DC
- 3DC in next 3 spaces
- CH3 turn
Row 12
- 3DC in next 2 spaces, change to green on last DC
- 3DC in next 3 spaces, change to white on last DC
- 3DC in next 2 spaces
- 1DC on top of CH3
- CH3 turn
Row 13
- 2DC in first space
- 3DC in next 2 spaces, change to green on last DC
- 3DC in next 2 spaces, change to white on last DC
- 3DC in next 3 spaces
- CH3 turn
Row 14
- 3DC in next 3 spaces, change to green on last DC
- 3DC in next space, change to white
- 3DC in next 3 spaces
- 1DC on top of chain 3 space
- CH3 turn
You can now cut green yarn & the white yarn not on the crochet hook
Row 15
- 2DC in first space
- 3DC in every space across row
- CH1, fasten off white
Weave in all ends. We will now start the boarder with Toasted Almond
Border
Round 1
- Attach Toasted Almond in between any cluster of DC from block
- *CH3, SC in next space
- Repeat from * along all 4 sides until you get to your corners
- In every corner place a SC + CH3 + SC
- finish with a SLST into first SC
- CH1 fasten off
Round 2
- Attach Linen yarn into any corner space from previous round
- CH2 (counts as a HDC)
- 2 HDC in same space
- 3HDC into each chain 3 space along all 4 sides
- 3HDC + CH2 + 3HDC in all 4 corner spaces
- finish in the corner you started in with 3HDC + CH2
- SLST into top of begging CH3
- CH1, fasten off
Your Granny Stitch Xmas Tree Block is now complete!
Optional Border:
Round 1:
- 3HDC into every space between previous clusters of 3HDC
- when you come to where 2 blocks join you will work 1HDC into the first corner + 1HDC Decrease starting in the space you just worked in and in the space to the left. Then 1HDC into the the space you just finished your decrease.
- continue working 3HDC into every space making sure to work 3HDC+CH2+3HDC into every corner
Round 2:
- work 1SS into each space with a CH3
- corners get 1SS + CH3 + 1SS
Round 3:
- 3HDC into every CH3 space.
- 3HDC + CH2 + 3HDC into each corner
Round 4:
- Starting in any corner you will work 1SC into the first stitch to the left of the CH2
- work 2 more SC (1 into the top of each stitch)
- After the 3rd SC is worked CH 3 then work a SS into the front 2 loops of the SC
- keep working 3SC + CH3 + SS into front of SC around your entire blanket
- corners will get 2SC then CH3 + SS into front of SC
