Crochet Flower Bucket Hat - Free Pattern

Create your own stylish crochet flower bucket hat with this free pattern! With just a few simple materials, you can make a unique and beautiful hat to match any outfit. The video tutorial makes it perfect for beginners!

Materials:

  • Size H 5mm crochet hook (use size 4.5mm if you'd like to make it a bit smaller)
  • 3 colors worsted weight size medium 4 yarn
    • White
    • Yellow
    • Linen
  • Scissors
  • Stitch marker
  • Tapestry Needle

US Stitches Used:

  • SS: Slip Stitch
  • CH: Chain
  • SC: Single Crochet
  • sc2tog: Single Crochet 2 together
  • HDC: Half Double Crochet
  • DC: Double Crochet
  • tc2tog: Triple Crochet 2 together
  • tc3tog: Triple Crochet 3 together

Before we begin, if you are more of a visual learner here is the video tutorial.

 Also, depending on the brand of yarn and your beautiful head size you may need to use a different size crochet hook. I recommend using a size 4.5mm hook to make it a bit more fitted, or a size 4mm to make it even smaller. 

Crochet Flower Bucket Hat Pattern

Floral side of the hat;

(Crochet 5 blocks)

Round 1 (yellow):

  • CH 3
  • SS into first CH to create a circle
  • CH 3 (counts as first DC)
  • 11 DC into circle (12 DC total with CH 3)
  • SS into top of first CH3 + fasten off

Round 2 (white):

  • attach white to top of any stitch from R1
  • (CH3 + tc2tog) + CH 2 ( 1 petal)
  • *(tc3tog + CH 2) repeat from * in each stitch (12 petals total)
  • SS to top of first petal + fasten off

Round 3 (Linen):

  • attach linen into any CH2 space
  • CH 3 + 2DC into same space (this makes half of your first corner)
  • into next 2 CH2 spaces work 3HDC
  • in next space work *(3DC + CH2 + 3DC) + in next 2 spaces work 3HDC
    • repeat from * until you reach the space with half of your first corner
  • 3DC + CH2 into first space you worked in to complete this corner
  • SS to top of CH3 ( Don't fasten off continue R4 in same color)

Round 4:

  • working back into CH2 space you just made work 1SC + CH1 (counts as first HDC) + 2HDC in same space (this makes half of your first corner)
  • into next 3 spaces between 3HDC from R3 work 3HDC
  • *3HDC + CH2 + 3HDC into corner then 3HDC into next 3 spaces
    • repeat from * until end of round
  • 3HDC + CH2 into first space you worked in to complete this corner
  • SS to top of first CH2 + fasten off

Joining: 

You will need to crochet 1 complete block before you can start joining the blocks with the join as you go method
  • blocks 2-4 are joined the same way
  • complete 1 of the 4 sides of R4
  • when you come to your first full corner you will work 3HDC + CH1
  • grab your completed block and work a SS into any corner to join the two blocks
  • finish this corner by working 3HDC into same space
  • *SS into next space of finished block
  • 3HDC into space
  • repeat until you get to next corner
  • into corner work 3HDC + SS into corner of finished block + CH1 + 3HDC
    • You are now done joining this side and continue R4 as normal.
    • repeat this joining method for another 2 blocks attaching side to side
  • to join the 5th and final block repeat steps above
    • after joining 1 side complete 3rd side and to join the 4th side fold your work into a band and attach to first block.

Top of hat:

Round 1 (Linen):

  • CH3 + SS into first CH to create a circle
  • CH2 (counts as first HDC) + 9 HDC into circle (10 total)
  • SS to top of CH2

Round 2:

  • CH2 + 1HDC in same space + 2 HDC into every stitch (20 total)
  • SS to top of CH2

Round 3:

  • CH2 + 1HDC in same space + 1HDC in next stitch
  • *2HDC into next stitch + 1HDC into next stitch
    • repeat from * until end of round (30 total)
  • SS to complete round

Round 4:

  • CH2 + 1HDC in same space + 1HDC into each of the next 2 stitches
  • *2HDC into next stitch + 1HDC into each of the next 2 stitches
    • repeat from * until end of round (40 total)
  • SS to complete round

Round 5:

  • CH2 + 1HDC in same space + 1HDC into each of the next 3 stitches
  • *2HDC into next stitch + 1HDC into each of the next 3 stitches
    • repeat from * until end of round (50 total)
  • SS to complete round

Round 6:

  • CH2 + 1HDC in same space + 1HDC into each of the next 4 stitches
  • *2HDC into next stitch + 1HDC into each of the next 4 stitches
    • repeat from * until end of round (60 total)
  • SS to complete round

Round 7:

  • CH2 + 1HDC in same space + 1HDC into each of the next 5 stitches
  • *2HDC into next stitch + 1HDC into each of the next 5 stitches
    • repeat from * until end of round (70 total)
  • SS to complete round

 Round 8:

  • CH2 + 1HDC in same space + 1HDC into each of the next 6 stitches
  • *2HDC into next stitch + 1HDC into each of the next 6 stitches
    • repeat from * until end of round (80 total)
  • SS to complete round

Round 9:

  • this round will be where you join the top part of the hat to the sides you created.
  • Please watch video tutorial above on how to join these two parts staring at minute 23

Brim of hat:

NOTE: You will not be finishing each round with a SS, you will simply continue working each new round with a SC. Make sure to replace your stitch marker at the beginning of each round so you don't lose your place.

Round 1:

  • with hat upside down you will be working into the stitches facing you from the sides of the hat
  • looking at a complete flower block you will attach the yarn into the right corner of that block, directly into the space just left of where two blocks join together.
  • SC into same space (pace your stitch marker into this stitch)
  • *work 1 SC into each of the next 15 stitches (make sure not to miss the first stitch)
  • work 1 SC into first corner space + 2SCtog around where the corners join (insert hook into same corner space, yarn over and pull up a loop, insert hook into corner space of next block, yarn over and pull up a loop, now yarn over and pull through all 3 loops
  • 1SC into same corner space
    • repeat from * until end of round. You should have 90 stitches total

Round 2:

  • *SC into each of the next 4 stitches + 2SC into next stitch
  • repeat from * all the way around 

Round 3:

  • *SC into each of the next 5 stitches + 2SC into next stitch
  • repeat from * all the way around

Round 4:

  • *SC into each of the next 6 stitches + 2SC into next stitch
  • repeat from * all the way around

Round 5:

  • 1SC into every stitch (144 stitches)

Round 6:

  • *SC into each of the next 7 stitches + 2SC into next stitch
  • repeat from * all the way around (162 stitches)

Round 7:

  • 1SC into every stitch (162 stitches) 

Round 8:

  • CH1 work 1 reverse single crochet into every stitch
  • SS into first stitch + fasten off + sew in all ends
